The Milky Way over Sea Ranch

The camera can see more than our eyes can at night. Facing west, we could see the Milky Way but not the light at the horizon. What is it?

This view is toward the southeast from the beach at The Sea Ranch. Jupiter was the brightest light in the sky (Uranus was conjunct with Jupiter and behind it). The horizon glow might be from inland cities like Santa Rosa or Healdsberg.

Seen along the California coast at The Sea Ranch. This rock formation looked very much like the head of a snapping turtle to me.

Several Harbor Seals, waiting in the Sea Ranch Maternity ward, seem to not be bothered at all by blowing sea foam.

I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a contrail like this though it must happen all the time.

‘shrooms in an odd place

While walking in a light rain up at The Sea Ranch on the Monarch Trail we spotted this trio of tiny mushrooms growing out of the side of a massive fence post. Try as I might to get enough depth of field (f32!) I had to settle for almost. See the second photo for scale.
