I was privilidged to attend a celebration of 20 years of Photoshop at the Palace of Fine Arts theater last night. Everyone who is “Photoshop” was there including the Knoll brothers who wrote v1.0. It was hosted by Scott Kelby and it started off with a fairly wacky band in plastic suits and wigs but it made for some interesting photography. I liked this shot simply because of the color and motion.
I don’t think I’ve attended an event with as many high-end cameras in use. It seems that I wasn’t the only person thinking of the possibilities. Jeff Schewe was all over the place taking photos at wacky angles. All the attendees got a poster and a t-shirt. Some of us were lucky enough to pick a seat with a PS 20th Anniversary 2Gb flash drive.

Last night my friend John and I went to a shoot sponsored by the Nocturnes on Mare Island. We had a great time and at least understand the basics of long exposure nighttime photography. It’s a very different experience given 4-8 minute exposures.
This is perhaps my favorite shot of the night. It was a six minute exposure.

The town of Gualala on the north coast has a Trucker’s Light Parade on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. There are two categories of entrants: Big Rigs and Pickups with Trailers. Perhaps the most interesting entry was this pickup truck and his Christmas Tree mounted flame thrower. I’m not at all sure what this means….but it can’t be good.
Yeah, it’s touristy and been done a thousand times. Still, I like it.

A photo of mine was published on the National Geographic web site today. It is a photograph I took some 9 years ago at Lake Tahoe. I didn’t know what the phenomena was and asked the folks at Astronomy Picture of the Day if they knew. They were kind enough to let me know that it was a Sun Pillar and oh, by the way, could they use the photo? It became the Astronomy Picture of the Day for November 7, 2001. After that, I started to get inquiries from around the world. The photo has appeared:

This guy was exhorting everyone at the corner approaching the KOM point on Patterson Pass. Where can I get an outfit like that? The riders are Bauke Mollema (Rabobank), Brian Vandborg (Liquigas) & Jeff Louder (BMC Racing), part of a 4 man breakaway.
