Sag Pond uploaded by admin.
My wife and I were walking a wonderful trail in the redwoods near the Gualala River at The Sea Ranch. We happened on this scene on a morning when the fires were sending a lot of smoke our way. Fires are tragic and destructive but the smoke changes the quality of light and from a photographic perspective, for the better.
The water is a sag pond formed when earth movements create clay bottomed valleys that fill with runoff. Whats make this even more interesting is this pond is directly on the San Andreas fault. In 1906, this area lurched 12 feet horizontally.
