An online group I belong to is dedicated to developing photographic creativity. One member saw a gallery of wonderfully whimsical images and wondered how it was done. Several people chimed in and one posted a link to a tutorial that did something similar. This is based on a post sunset picture of the San Francisco skyline.

I have a lemon tree just outside the window to my office. Birds flit in and out and I enjoy watching them. This little fellow lit for quite a while and sang to me this morning. A docent once helped me identify birds like this. She said “It’s an LBJ.” “LBJ?” “Yeah, Little Brown Job”.

While I was out for a long walk this morning (32 degrees, cold for this neck of the woods) there was nice color in the sky for a short while and I tried to find as many ways of capturing it as I could without the stereotypical “sunrise” shot. The reflection on the upper window was a nice complement to the building color.

My son-in-law’s parents built a retirement home at The Sea Ranch. They have been gracious enough to let us use it occasionally. Each time I’m there, I experiment with photography trying different styles. Here, I was going for that design magazine look. I think it’s partially successful.
